I sincerely believe that Karlovy Vary is after Prague the second most famous city in the Czech Republic. While tourists found places like Český Krumlov or Kutná Hora only recently, Karlovy Vary is popular for a long time. Actually since the 19th century. Karlovy Vary is our most famous spa town. And it always was. The town was simply built to amuse visitors. You. So let me tell you more about our tour to Karlovy Vary now.
Karlovy Vary lies near the border with Germany and we have to drive like two hours from Prague to get there. Yes, there is a regular public transport going there, but is it not more comfortable to be taken there by car? And to have a guide to show you around so you do not miss anything?
What is Karlovy Vary famous for
Karlovy Vary is very important town not just for visitors of spas but for many other reasons. Becherovka liquer is produced there. Famous waffles “Karlovarské oplatky” are made there and you can taste them everywhere on the street. A high-class mineral water Mattoni belongs to Karlovy Vary too. A big international movie festival every July. And the architecture of course. And the last but not the least – mineral water springs on the colonnade. A tour to Karlovy Vary has really so much to offer.
A colonnade
Karlovy Vary is a home for 50 000 people. But the most important part of it is just one street. A pretty long street. A colonnade. That is where most beautiful hotels, spas, mineral springs and other attractions are. And that is where we will mostly be.
We have to park our car outside of the city centre but not far. We will walk maybe 15 minutes through the town to get to the colonnade. It is one big street that is winding along a river. Actually the river is in the middle of it. As you will be admiring the place, you can taste waffles, or Becherovka on the way. But most people taste water from mineral springs. It is not really tasty, but they say it is healthy. Springs vary in temperature and there are 16 of them on the colonnade.
Grandhotel Pupp
If you are a famous movie star visiting the movie festival, or just someone terribly rich, you probably stay in the Grandhotel Pupp. This iconic building even appeared in the Casino Royale James Bond movie. And in many other movies. You dont have to be accomodated there to walk through it. And that is what we will enable you to do.
Karlovy Vary from a bird’s perspective
Most tourists who take a tour to Karlovy Vary for one day usually don’t visit a hill above the colonnade. But where else you want to take beautiful pictures of Karlovy Vary from a bird’s perspective? To get there is actually easy. Not far from the Pupp is the furnicular. It will take us to Diana lookout point. That is the first place where you can view Karlovy Vary from.
From Diana we will follow a tourist trail and basically walking down the hill we will comfortably walk to other lookout points. Especially the most iconic “Deer Jump”.
We will end up back on the colonnade, right at the main hot spring. And it will also be our lunch time when we can choose any local restaurant.
After the lunch we will walk slowly through the town back to our car and in another two hours you will be back in your hotel.
If you would like to take this tour to Karlovy Vary with us, you are more than welcome. Just reserve it.
