Czech highest mountain tour

The Czech Republic is maybe a small country, but geographically very diverse. We have lakes, rivers, deep forests, fields, and mountains. Not like Alps, but still mountains. We call the biggest ones Krkonoše. And the Czech biggest mountain is Sněžka. We can take you there on our tour to the Czech highest mountain.

Sněžka, with its 1603 metres, is accesible either by a cable car, or on foot. Honestly, I never used a cable car to get to the top and if you are healthy, you should not either. The hike is simply so good.

Our tour to Krkonoše mountains

Krkonoše mountains are situated on our border with Poland. Actually they are partially in Poland too. We have to drive two hours from Prague to Pec pod Sněžkou village. In the season, the sooner the better. Car parks get full very quickly. The village is already 800 metres high.

Pec pod Sněžkou

There are different trails that you can take from this village to the top. Two of them are shorter and harder. So we will take one of them. It is approximately 6 kilometres up and the same distance down.

Hiking to the top of the mountain

Well, the first part is hard. The trail goes just up through a forest and we will cover elevation difference of more than 500 metres on the 3 km trail. Therefore you will more than welcome a restaurant that sits on a half way to the top. Růžohorky. Their kitchen is good and traditional, prices reasonable. We can and will sit outside with a view on mountains. Priceless.

However, you should not eat too much, as we still have to get to the top. It is another 3 kilometres but most of this distance is actually quite easy. We will be hiking on a ridge and only in the end we will have to climb on massive stairs.

Sněžka. The Czech highest mountain

The Czech highest mountain Sněžka is actually border between our country and Poland. When we finally get to the top, we will see a border line between our countries. The bigger part of Sněžka is in fact in Poland. However views are outstanding.

We will be going down by a different way and part of it goes through Poland. The picture above this text shows a restaurant that is in Poland. The left part of the picture is however already in the Czech Republic.

The trail leading down is mostly easy with great views and rewarding after the difficult first half. You will surely enjoy this part more.

The trail ends right where we started in the morning. At the car park. So you will jump into the car and I will take you back to Prague while you are maybe sleeping.
