I bet that if you look for any list of “must see” places in the Czech Republic you will find Kutná Hora there. Beautiful as Prague but much smaller. Even smaller than small Český Krumlov. But still worthy to visit. If you do not plan to visit the town on your own, read this article. In other words, find here everything you need to know about the tour to Kutná Hora.
Kutná Hora is really not far from Prague and you can actually get there easily by train. But it is not that easy because your main points of interests are miles apart from each other. I therefore recommend going there by car. Our car to be precise. It is approximately one hour drive from your accomodation in Prague to get there.
The Bone Church
Everybody wants to see the Ossuary. The Bone Church. That is where our tour starts. We will let you to explore the place on your own but we will tell you everything about if before. It is actually forbidden to take pictures inside, so be prepared for no selfies from the church.
Cathedrals in Kutná Hora
Part of the price you pay for this tour is one ticket that enables you to visit this church and two other holy places. The Cathedral of Assumption, which is just two minutes walk from the Bone Church. And the cathedral of St.Barbara which is in the city centre. Two miles from the Bone Church.
Again, we will let you to explore both cathedrals on your own after we tell you all about it. We will just be waiting for you outside. We respect that some people are interested less or more about religious buildings so the time spent inside is up to you.
Kutná Hora city centre
On our way from the Bone Church area we will find a parking place in the city centre. From it we will walk shortly to the St.Barbara Cathedral. You will be able to see the architecture of the old town. And you will hear from us about a history of this town too. After you will be finished with the cathedral, we will take you for a lunch. Our lunch is in the best rated restaurant in the city centre so you will be able to see even more from the town.
As mentioned, Kutná Hora is really small. Expect that all together you will have to walk no more than two miles on this tour.
Museum of Silver
Meaning of Kutná Hora is actually “Mining Hill”. The town was established near huge sources of silver. The mine was so rich that the Czech kingdom was once the richest kingdom in Europe. Everything the emperor Charles IV. was able to build was thanks to this mine. So visiting a museum that shows you a history of mining in Kutná Hora is simply a must.
All other tours to Kutná Hora actually skip this museum. They believe that everything people want to see is the Bone Church. Yes, maybe. But this museum is very well done and you will learn very important things. Did you know that the word “dollar” comes from the Czech “tolar”? A silver coin that was produced also in Kutná Hora?
The silver mine museum offers even one more attraction that is not part of our tour and the price. We do not offer it because it is nof for everyone. It is actually possible to have a tour in the real mine. Or at least in the part that is used for the excursion. They will take you 30 metres underground to dumpy and small tunnels. All dressed up like medieval miners but with modern headlights. If you are at least little claustrophobic, it is not for you. There is no escape from the excursion and you have to walk through tunnels to the end. But honestly, it is extremely interesting tour. So, just in case, it is optionable for you.
Would you like to do the tour to Kutná Hora with us? Book it then. We are looking forward to see you there.
